Most cars have a lifecycle of 7 to 8 years. This cycle is extended to 10 years in case of supercars like the Murcielago and Gallardo. However, RR Phantom exceeds the longevity of many modern exotics by stretching to a good 17 years. Introduced in 2003, it is set to remain in current form till 2020.

The Phantom received its first major update last year. Known as The Series II Phantom, it has significant upgrades over the Series I, such as 8-speed automatic transmission, revised styling and updated electronics. Now, these changes took a good 9 years, so it is not at all surprising to believe that this exotic will stay for another 7 years.

The main reason of such a long lifecycle is that RR doesn’t want Phantom owners to feel disappointed by launching its replacement soon. Also, it is the leader in the ultra-luxury segment and doesn’t need replacing anytime soon.
