Quick Review

The Volvo V70 is a midsized five-door station wagon. For 2012, it gets some styling changes including revamped headlamps and LED turn indicators, plus new colors and updated wheels. The Volvo Sensus infotainment system has been upgraded, as have the V70's various safety systems.

The Volvo V70's refreshed look is certainly stylish for a family car, both inside and out. The V70 attempts to justify its premium price with premium materials and lots of extra safety systems. The cabin is very comfortable and there's lots of space, both for passengers and for cargo. The philosophy of the V70 is customization, so there are plenty of options that let you tailor the car to your individual needs. On the downside, its handling is only adequate and fuel economy is subpar.

The Audi A4 Avant is a strong rival, with a luxurious interior and lots of standard features that most only offer as options. It doesn't race away (pun intended) in any particular area, but it's a good all-rounder. It has competitive fuel economy compared to the Volvo V70. The BMW 3-Series Wagon offers good handling and a luxurious interior, as well as plenty of cargo space; however, the back seat is smaller compared to the V70's.

The Volvo V70 is a family car, first and foremost. It will appeal to the premium shopper who wants extra safety features.

The drive is not exactly thrilling. It doesn't offer a lot of speed, but the powertrain is smooth. Overall, it's a comfortable and adequate ride.
