GITX 2023

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is all set to unveil a lineup of visionary projects and forward-looking initiatives, harnessing the power of artificial intelligence and metaverse technologies at GITEX 2023. The curtain rises on October 16, 2023, at the prestigious Dubai World Trade Centre. Here's a glimpse of what's in store:

  • A smart gate primed for facial recognition payments of public transport fares.
  • The revamped “RTA Dubai Drive” app, now your go-to for hassle-free vehicle number plate ownership transfers.
  • Behold the world’s premier 3D-printed electric Abra model, a fusion of innovation and environmental consciousness.
  • And not to be missed, the integration of AI and big data tech to foresee and regulate public parking space occupancy.

Mattar Al Tayer, the powerhouse behind RTA, emphasizes, “RTA is committed to harnessing emerging technologies and AI to boost productivity, elevate operational efficiency, and enhance customer services. This drive is aligned to foster well-being in Dubai by offering diverse options for residents to transform Dubai into the best city for living in the world. Such efforts are made to enhance Dubai’s global competitiveness and set it as a benchmark in developing governmental business, ensuring high efficiency, and a fully digital life”.

RTA is at the forefront of smart transport ventures, from control centers for public transit to groundbreaking strides in autonomous tech. They're not just adopting, but driving the 4th Industrial Revolution, integrating IoT, AI, machine learning, big data, robotics, and electric energy solutions. Al Tayer underlines RTA's role in shaping Dubai’s bright, innovative, and eco-conscious future.

Their sights are set on the Dubai Strategy for Smart Self-Driving Transport, aiming for a quarter of Dubai's journeys to be smart and driverless by 2030. In cahoots with GM Cruise, RTA envisions an autonomous vehicle fleet reaching 4,000 strong by the same milestone year.

Revamped Dubai Drive App

Now, let’s talk about the revamped Dubai Drive app. It's undergone a serious facelift, with a redesigned user interface, infused with infrastructure upgrades and an injection of data and AI tech for a smoother, more efficient user experience.

Transferring Ownership of Your Plate Number

And that's not all. Transferring ownership of your plate number just got a whole lot simpler. The Dubai Drive app streamlines the process, utilizing the digital ID “UAE PASS”. No more trudging to RTA service centers. It's all done through the smart app. Register with "UAE PASS", complete service procedures, and seal the deal with a secure e-signature.

Making Payment with Facial Recognition

Facial recognition payments are another star in RTA's tech constellation. Paying for your public transport fare is as easy as a smile. No tickets, no NOL cards, no credit cards required. The system works its magic through 3D facial analysis, transforming your image into biodata and matching it to your face. Fare deducted, hassle eliminated. This innovation tightens the weave of transport services, cutting through red tape and boosting efficiency, all while reducing reliance on cash transactions.

Easier Parking: With Parking Prediction

Parking prediction takes center stage as well. RTA taps into the power of AI and Big Data to anticipate parking occupancy. They crunch through 2.5 million reservations and 600 thousand inspections, delivering forecasts for every hour over a two-week span, and fine-tuning predictions every 15 minutes. It's a game-changer, letting customers plan their trips with confidence, thanks to real-time data through RTA’s smart apps.

Finally: 3D-printed electric Abra

Last but certainly not least, behold the 3D-printed electric Abra. A true marvel, born from a collaboration between RTA and the private sector. This Abra is a gem, accommodating up to 20 passengers, powered by eco-friendly electric motors, and maintaining the timeless design of traditional Abras. It’s a testament to Dubai’s commitment to 3D printing, slashing production time by 90% and costs by 30%, all in line with RTA’s environmental sustainability strategy.
