Quick Review

The Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is a large luxury SUV. For 2012, it is largely unchanged from the 2011 model year.

The Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is a brawny off-roader, while still boasting a good-looking exterior and impressive luxury inside. For Middle East markets, it comes with a choice of two engines: a 4-litre V6 which puts forth 271 horsepower and 381Nm of torque, or a more modest 2.7-litre inline-4 that gives you 160 horsepower and 246 Nm of torque. The interior boasts a range of excellent safety features, including the option of airbags for all three rows and Toyota's comprehensive Star Safety System as standard. Other standard features include a USB port with iPod connectivity, audio and telephone Bluetooth capability, and four-zone automatic climate control.

For sheer off-road might, consider the Land Rover LR4. It is less luxurious than the Land Cruiser Prado, but still upscale inside; and its hill-clambering, canyon-crawling muscle is legendary. For those who demand extra luxury, the Lexus LX is a possibility -- it's an even more upscale interpretation of the Land Cruiser, with much of the same off-road muscle. If you're not planning to take the Lexus LX off-road, however, it doesn't really justify the price.

The Land Cruiser Prado is an SUV for the luxury shopper who wants plenty of high-end features as well as off-road muscle. Excellent safety features make this a great family car.

The Land Cruiser Prado is an exceptionally comfortable and satisfying drive, both on the highway and off-road.
