Quick Review

The Mazda 6 is a well-rounded family sedan, with good driving performance and a spacious interior. It shows that a practical family car doesn’t have to be boring.

The 2012 model has no significant changes from previous model. The interior is durable, but fittings do lack a top quality feel. Though rear headroom isn’t fantastic, the Mazda 6 has all the space that you’d normally need in a family car.

One of the big strengths of the Mazda 6 is the way it drives. It’s refined and feels assured through the corners despite a little body roll on the most demanding roads. It’s a pleasure to drive overall, with good grip and powerful brakes. It offers one of the best driving experiences in its segment.

The petrol engines are not class-leading but they get the job done. The 2.3 L is adequate and will manage 6.6 liters / 100 Km.

The Mazda comes well equipped for the price, and is good value for money – and is exceptionally reliable. However, rivals including the Hyundai Sonata and Kia Optima might be attractive options if you’re looking for more standard features. The VW Passat is quite refined, and the Nissan Altima is sporty, but the Mazda 6 is still a strong choice for those who value a great driving experience.

The Mazda 6 sets itself apart from most other family sedans with really excellent handling - it’s definitely an option that’s worth a look.
