Quick Review

The Kia Sorento is not only a good value midsize crossover SUV, but also offers a lot of other advantages making it a practical and highly usable option.

After last year’s redesign, the 2012 model comes with a few more upgrades – such as a four-cylinder engine option, for better fuel economy.

The interior of the Kia is of good quality, though not top of its class. The front seats are comfortable, though rear passengers may struggle with headroom. The boot is massive once the seats are folded down.

The base 2.4L engine is perky enough for town driving and with light loads, but might struggle with a full cargo space. The four-cylinder option here might be the best choice for most people – though the 3.5L V6 is best if you frequently carry a fully loaded car.

Driving wise, this isn’t the best performance car as you might expect. However, the cabin is quiet at high speeds, and it does handle well for its size. The ride quality is mostly good, but could cope with very bumpy roads better. As family crossovers go, it’s surprisingly enjoyable on the road.

The Sorento is competitively priced and comes with an excellent warranty. This makes it an attractive alternative to premium badges such as the Land Rover, especially for budget-conscious individuals. The VolkswagenTiguan and Nissan Qashqai are other options, which offer similar practicality but with a better level of interior quality.

If you’re looking for a practical, easy to drive and affordable SUV for ferrying passengers and luggage, the Kia Sorento is an option that shouldn’t be overlooked.
