Quick Review

The Chevrolet Spark is economy all the way, looks smart and has cheap running costs, but is not a champion at drivability. If you’re looking for a city car or cheap run-around, it’s good but maybe not the best in class.

The Chevrolet Spark replaces the Matiz; a car many thought had over stayed its welcome. It’s a vast improvement over the budget-feel of its predecessor, but has a lot of similar features. The interior is not the most impressive, with significant plastic usage, and the engine size is diminutive.

The Spark comes with 1.2L engine which is fine for city driving, but is noisy at the same time. Running costs are low however, with an average of 4.8 liters for 100 km.

However, the tall body of the Spark means there’s plenty of interior space, with decent head and leg room for both passengers and driver. It’s primarily aimed at city driving, and the ride is good enough even on the motorway. However, it’s not the most fun car to drive - but it’s not awful either.

The Spark is priced slightly higher than its nearest rival the Hyundai i10.

The Chevrolet Spark is a solid choice for anyone wanting a relatively spacious, economical city car. However, it could be worth looking at the competitors if you want something with a bit more driving panache.
