Nissan Patrol Safari – this is the SUV for people in the GCC. Even though the Patrol has changed its shape and characteristics since the current one launched in 2010, the previous generation Patrol Safari is still being sold on the side by Nissan in this region. The biggest reason being that with the new Patrol, Nissan became domesticated and although it has more power than before – 400 BHP / 560 Nm torque as compared to 276 BHP / 400 Nm torque – and not to forget the various driving aids to help the driver in sticky situations, it doesn’t have the raw unforgiving character of the old Nissan Patrol.

The Patrol Safari is known to be this formidable force in the desert with the locals modifying the SUV from top to bottom to suit their needs. It is lighter than the new Patrol and more hardcore in offroading. This attribute is shown in the video above where the lighter and more agile Patrol is able to pull a truck out of a ditch in the sand. The lightweight enabled the Patrol to swing about and not get stuck itself in the sand. This is old-school engineering at its best. There is no independent suspension, no driving aids; nothing. It is a car for offroading purists and keeps its head up high when compared to the new generation.
