2016 Mercedes-Benz C300 Coupe Front

The fourth generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class, cryptically coded the W205, was launched in 2014 at the Detroit Auto Show and attained international fame instantaneously. Borrowing heavily from the German marque’s flagship model, the C-Class catapulted its way to the segment’s throne.

In 2015, the brand introduced the striking C-Class Coupe and took the Frankfurt Auto Show by storm. Targeted at the younger, more trendy clientele of the brand, the second-generation C-Class Coupe aims at trumping the likes of the BMW 4-Series, Cadillac ATS Coupe and Lexus RC.

Key Features:
Engine 2.0L / 4-cyl
Transmission 7 Speed Automatic
Power 245hp / 370NM
Top Speed 250 km/h
Price AED 255,000

Exterior

Making use of high strength steel and aluminum in the bodywork, the second-generation C-Class Coupe sheds up to 100 kilograms when compared to its predecessor. Its fitter, more athletic presence is connoted through crisp contours that adorn the bodywork and flared wheel arches that complement the distinct shoulder line.

Interior

Bearing great resemblance to the model that it is based on, the C-Class Coupe features a sleek dashboard with brushed aluminum, wood paneling and a tasteful use of chrome. Along the center console, the designers have replaced conventional buttons and rotary knobs with flip switches and an intuitive mousepad for a much neater appearance.

Safety & Tech

Delivering great levels of safety that individuals have come to expect from the German brand, the 2016 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe offers Attention Assist and Parktronic as standard equipment. While the former alerts the driver if they are showing signs of fatigue at the wheel, the latter uses a variety of sensors to make parking and maneuvering easier and safer.

Drive

Although 15 kilograms heavier than the Cadillac ATS Coupe, the 2016 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe is 65 kilograms lighter than the BMW 4-Series and a whopping 199 kilograms lighter than the bulky Lexus RC. With a 2.0-liter engine churning out 245 horsepower and 370 Nm of torque, there’s ample amounts of power to get up and get going, as the 0-100 km/h sprint time of 6.0 seconds proves.

Mapped to a rear-wheel-drive layout and with power being channeled through a 7-speed automatic transmission, the C-Class offers an engaging drive. A drive that is further customizable to Eco, Sport, Sport + or Comfort modes with alterations affecting the weight of the steering, suspension stiffness, gearbox and engine mappings.

Verdict

The 2016 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe isn’t like the offspring of a celebrity couple and doesn’t have to rely on the success of the model that it is based on, to make a name for itself. Instead, it is a truly magnificent vehicle that surpasses the benchmarks created by its rivals to rightfully reserve its place on the throne. Simply put, the C-Class Coupe is everything one would expect it to be and more.
