While sports car makers bring us exciting cars year after year with increased technology, power and better aerodynamics, even more frisson is curated by their extreme racing events which are held in several parts of the world giving us a taste of scrumptious circuits underlined with fine tar, a constantly cheering audience on the stands and the throaty rasp from the exhaust emanated by the droolworthy racing machines that are gorgeous to look at. However, things went terribly askew over the past couple of years since the uncontrollable virus reflected a grave scenario. However, one of the best motorsport events, Lamborghini Super Trofeo will be back in the Middle East for its 2022 calendar year.

Like always, the championship will be organised by the motorsport division of Lamborghini, christened Squadra Corse and will feature Huracan Super Trofeo Evo cars as part of its frantic event. Over a span of 10 days, 6 races are to be held on two of the most desirable circuits in the Middle East, one of which needs no introduction.

Since its inception in 2017, two other seasons have also been conducted in 2018 and 2019, respectively with the enthusiasm surpassing the previous year’s with each season. The Middle East edition has provided the privilege to 69 drivers to partake in the Super Trofeo Middle East event with Frederik Schandorff making the region proud, registering his name for the award of Pro class title in 2019. Eventually, he added more glory to his name by clinching a win to secure the Lamborghini Super Trofeo World Finals in the same year.

To make for a grand opening of the event and ensuring everything is done in style and pomp and show, the preliminary round will be held during the 3rd weekend of January at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi. It is a location known to be a plenary testing ground for racing drivers and even those with a great passion for automobiles. It has invited thousands every year to spectate the event and boost their adrenaline levels.

A week later, the championship will switch its venue to the Dubai Autodrome where manufacturers have been seen launching cars, people fulfilling their desire for thrill through the bantamweight go-karts and other such events being held very often. At the location, each round will flank 3 50-minute races, contradicting the standard fashion of holding two per weekend in other European, Asian and North American countries.

The event seeks to provide bang for buck as it is coming back after such a gap. It is going to provide sheer frolic to the audience when they see the cars propelling at lightning fast speeds and cheer for their favourite driver. The competition intensifies especially in the last lap increasing everyone’s heartbeat. That feeling too, will be experienced this time around.

As for the schedule of the event, the weekends will start with two 60-minute free practice sessions so that the drivers understand the silhouette of the race track. This will be followed by 2 20-minute sessions ascertaining whether the drivers have qualified. According to the plan, the grid for Race 1 will be set by the fastest times achieved in Q1, with details on Race 2 grid set to be out depending on the conclusion of Q2. Collating the Q1 and Q2 times, the order for the final race will be decided. Winning teams and drivers from each of the 4 types: Pro, Pro-Am, Am and Lamborghini Cup will receive the advantage of a zero cost entry into the World Finals.

20th, 21st and 22nd January, 2022 are the days for the event at the Yas Marina Circuit while 27th, 28th and 29th January, 2022 are the days for the event to be experienced at the Dubai Autodrome. On the face of it, the event seems to be promising. As it is making a comeback, it is expected to be more intense, insane and like nothing else seen before.
