Smart patrols (police vehicles fitted with several cameras and sensors) have been rolled out across Abu Dhabi to catch drivers who violate rules such as lane discipline, expired registration, and not wearing a seatbelt, amongst other violations.

In a video posted online, Abu Dhabi Police said that it is utilizing smart patrols to enhance traffic safety across the emirate. Through the use of advanced technology, violations such as using a mobile phone while driving and ignoring speed limits can also be monitored. The police will then notify the driver of their violation through SMS.

This technology comes into place at a critical time as monitoring the actions of motorists is vital during the ongoing travel restrictions within the emirate.
