500 horsepower – the output of the Posaidon A45

Posaidon, no newcomer to the tuning scene, is one who has for long established its slightly eccentric status. While at the start of the month we reported on its Mercedes-AMG E63 which churned out 1,020 horsepower and 1,400 Nm of torque, we’re happy to close the month with news on its latest project, the Mercedes-AMG A45 RS485+.

The German pocket rocket is quite easily one of the hottest hot hatches around, and while it embarrasses many a sports car without much effort, Posaidon’s worked its magic to up the power figure to 500 horsepower – a gain of 119 horsepower over stock.
While a number of changes were made to achieve the jaw-dropping output of 500 horsepower, the first step was to swap out the factory turbocharger with a ball-bearing race turbocharger. To ensure the larger turbo received as much air as was needed, the intake system was tweaked with improvements for ram air, and a larger intercooler were fitted.

At the other end, the RS485+ received a larger diameter stainless steel downpipe with the option of a free-flow 200-cell catalytic converter. Ensuring it didn’t tamper with the classical burble of the AMG, Posaidon left the rest of the exhaust system unaltered.
Finally, the engine and transmission software were remapped to record a 0 – 100 km/h sprint time of 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 315 km/h. To keep up with the added power, Posaidon offers an uprated brake kit with 365x34mm vented steel discs.
