Quick Review
For the 2012 model year, Land Rover have made some modest upgrades to their Range Rover Sport. Some markets will see a new 3.0-liter V6 turbo diesel engine, boosting fuel economy. Other improvements include a new power liftgate and a seven-inch touchscreen system with Dual View. There have also been some subtle changes to the Sport's exterior.
The Range Rover Sport compares favorably with other vehicles in the luxury SUV segment. To be fair, it has a few shortcomings next to competitors such as the BMW X6 or the Porsche Cayenne GTS -- it's not quite as glamorous, packs a little less power and weighs in a shade heavier. However, it certainly offers plenty of luxury, and at a lower price than most. What really sets the Sport apart from its competitors however, is its versatility. Not only does it perform well on the highway, but few luxury SUVs can approach its magnificent off-road abilities. Steep slopes offer it little challenge; it can take on ice and snow with ease; and there's certainly no danger of getting stuck in the mud.
First and foremost, the Range Rover Sport is a luxury vehicle, designed to appeal to the affluent urban buyer. But it will also attract those who need the reassurance that their family SUV will be able to handle rougher conditions when needed.
The Range Rover Sport offers a Highway setting that gives you a very comfortable ride on normal roads. Overall a great luxury off-roader that combines well with highway driving.
